The garb worn by nuns is referred to as a habit Nuns teaching grade schoolchildren in the classroom are notoriously know to be strict  disciplinarians who run a tight ship Thus when we refer to this classroom scenario we have the expression “force of habit”

  1. Perhaps more appropriately it should be: “habit of force!” (By the way, did you know that “Nun” is “nuN” spelled backward?)
